Abu Galum Protected Area

Abu Galum located between the southern towns of Dahab and from Nuweiba to the north on the Gulf of Aqaba. About 27 km from Nuweiba.

Abu Galum stretches from Dahab region in the Blue Hole area in the south to Wadi Sakhn in the north.

Abu Galum Protected Area is named after the quail plants that are found in the area, and the word "head" refers to any outbreak of baldness in the sea.

Roads leading to the protected area:

There are three roads that lead to the Abu Galum Protected Area:

  • From the blue-hole area by car, camel, or on foot, this road is about 7 km long.
  • The Wadi Rassas road by car, this road is about 27 km long.

The coastal road from Nuweiba, this road is about 27 km long up to the northern border of the protected area.

Activities:

  • Safari : Abu Galum Protected Area has several wadis (valleys) such as Wadi Al Aqdah, Wadi Rassas, and Wadi Om Fa’i. Which are beautiful geological landscapes that attract photographers, as well as a variety of plant and animal life.
  • For example, Mountain birds and the Oryx antelope can be seen. As well as the tracks of foxes, hyenas, and wolves. Therefore, these wadis attract safari enthusiasts and are a great destination for those interested in nature photography
  • Camping: Abu Galum offers the opportunity to camp in beautiful natural surroundings whether in the wadis or on the coast. There are several designated camping areas, and there are also several Bedouin tents that provide accommodation.
  • Diving: Abu Galum is also great destination for diving. As it have several dive sites that are suitable for all levels of divers. The crystal clear waters of the Red Sea offers the opportunity to see a variety of marine life. Such as colorful fish, coral reefs, dolphins and whales.
  • Hiking: The Abu Galum offers several hiking trails that allow visitors to explore the diverse landscape and see the various plant and animal life up close. The trails range in difficulty and length, so there is something suitable for hikers of all levels.
